ABS Quality Evaluations Joins CNCA Annual Meeting in Beijing

On April 12-13, ABS Quality Evaluations Inc. took part in a two-day meeting in Beijing with representatives of certification bodies approved by the China National Certification and Accreditation Association (CNCA).
As discussed during the meeting, CNCA plans to require that all certification bodies implement a social accountability system, including a set of mandatory indicators, which will be part of an annual report that certification bodies are required to submit to CNCA. Monitoring should start on several indicators with the 2012 report, while reporting on all indicators will become mandatory in 2014.
A total of 173 certification bodies have received approval from CNCA to date. Out of the 173, 38 are internationally based, 107 are in Beijing, 25 in Shanghai, eight in Guangzhou, seven in Jiangsu province and 25 in other regions of China.
At the end of 2011, the number of valid certificates (including management systems and product certification) issued across China were:
- Quality management system (QMS): 314,000 certificates
- Environmental management system (EMS): 72,100 certificates
- Occupational health and safety advisory services (OHSAS): 38,400 certificates
